AIHC Professional and Student Awards

The call for nominations for AIHC Professional and Student Awards is currently closed. Award recipients will be recognized at the Virtual Nexus Summit on October 1.

The American Interprofessional Health Collaborative (AIHC) Membership Committee, in conjunction with the AIHC Membership Awards Subcommittee, is thrilled to announce a call for nominations for 6 AIHC awards.

The awards are:

  • AIHC Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award
  • AIHC Interprofessional Collaborative Practice Award
  • AIHC Interprofessional Educator Award
  • AIHC Interprofessional Scholarship Award
  • AIHC Individual Student Award for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice
  • AIHC Student Team Award for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice

AIHC Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award

Description: This award is given to a faculty member for outstanding mentorship of students and/or peers in interprofessional education and/or practice. Nominations for this award may come from a student, faculty member, administrator, or may be a self-nomination.

Eligibility: AIHC member in good standing for at least the past two years.

Nature of Award:

  • Certificate of Award
  • One year free membership to AIHC

The award will be publicly acknowledged at a national or international conference such as the Nexus Summit and Collaborating Across Borders.

Selection Criteria:

The following should be provided in the application packet consisting of eight pages or less:

  • Cover page
  • Two letters of support from students, faculty members, administrators, and/or mentees
  • The application packet should provide evidence or description that the mentor:
    • Serves as a role model of interprofessional collaboration
    • Provides interprofessional education experiences to their mentee(s) to develop and advance the mentee’s understanding of interprofessional collaboration.
    • Encourages mentee to participate in interprofessional networking activities
    • Provides feedback to mentee regarding their performance using the IPEC core competencies as a framework (Values and Ethics, Roles and Responsibilities, Interprofessional Communication, Team and Teamwork)

AIHC Interprofessional Collaborative Practice Award

Description: This award recognizes individuals who demonstrate excellence in interprofessional collaborative practice.

Eligibility: AIHC member in good standing for at least the past two years.

Nature of the award:

  • Certificate of award
  • One year free membership to AIHC.

The award will be publicly acknowledged at a national or international conference such as the Nexus Summit and Collaborating Across Borders.

Selection Criteria:

The following should be provided in the application packet consisting of eight pages or less:

  • Cover page
  • Two letters of support from peers
  • Description showcasing interprofessional practice provided for the past 2 years
  • Previous award recognition for interprofessional collaborative practice
  • Evidence for developing and advocating for innovative interprofessional collaborative practice based on the following selection criteria.

AIHC Interprofessional Educator Award

Description: This award recognizes individuals who demonstrate excellence in interprofessional teaching.

Eligibility: AIHC member in good standing for at least the past two years.

Nature of the award:

  • Certificate
  • One year free membership to AIHC

The award will be publicly acknowledged at a national or international conference such as the Nexus Summit and Collaborating Across Borders.

Selection Criteria:

The following should be provided in the application packet consisting of eight pages or less:

  • Cover page
  • Two letters of support.
  • Description of interprofessional education provided for the past 2 years.
  • Previous award recognitions in teaching.
  • Evidence for exemplary teaching and role model for interprofessional education.

AIHC Interprofessional Scholarship Award

Description: This award is given to recognize and reward individuals who have made significant contributions to research and scholarship in interprofessional practice and education.

Eligibility: AIHC member in good standing for at least the past two years.

Nature of award:

  • Certificate
  • One year free membership to AIHC

The award will be publicly acknowledged at a national or international conference such as the Nexus Summit and Collaborating Across Borders.

Selection Criteria:

The following should be provided in the application packet consisting of eight pages or less:

  • Cover page
  • Two letters of support.
  • Description of research and scholarship in interprofessional practice and education disseminated in the last 2 years. Scholarship consistent with definition by Boyer1, such as discovery, integration, application and teaching and learning, is appropriate.
  • Please Include:
    • Grant submissions and awards
    • Presentations to IPE conferences (including invited presentations)
    • Peer-reviewed and non-peer reviewed publications

AIHC Individual Student Award for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice

Description: This award is given to a student who has demonstrated consistent engagement in an interprofessional collaborative practice within the clinic, classroom and/or community.

Eligibility: AIHC student members in good standing.

Nature of Award:

  • Certificate of Award
  • One year free membership to AIHC

The award will be publicly acknowledged at a national or international conference such as the Nexus Summit and Collaborating Across Borders.

Selection Criteria:

Should a student wish to be considered for this award they must:

  1. Submit one letter of support from a faculty member or faculty mentor, which must include the following:
    • Description of engagement [project, mentorship, clinical or community experience] in interprofessional collaborative practice.
    • Description of outcomes and/or impact on the clinic, classroom and/or community.
    • Evidence of demonstrating interprofessional communication, collaboration and excellence as a team member.
  2. The nominated student must submit an electronic poster, which must include the following:
    • Description of engagement [project, mentorship, clinical or community experience] in interprofessional collaborative practice.
    • Description of outcomes and/or impact on the clinic, classroom and/or community.
    • Reflection on lessons learned about interprofessional collaborative practice.
    • Description of how experience will impact your future practice.
  3. Additional information to be provided by the nominating faculty member/mentor:
    • Nominating Faculty Member or Faculty Mentor Name
    • Nominated Student’s Name
    • Nominated Student’s University, Department, and Program

AIHC Student Team Award for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice

Description: This award is given to a student team who has demonstrated consistent engagement in an interprofessional collaborative practice within the clinic, classroom and/or community.

Eligibility: AIHC student members in good standing.

Nature of Award:

  • Certificate of Award
  • One year free membership to AIHC

The award will be publicly acknowledged at a national or international conference such as the Nexus Summit and Collaborating Across Borders.

Selection Criteria:

Should a student team wish to be considered for this award they must:

  1. Be comprised of students from 2 or more professions
  2. Submit one letter of support from a faculty member or faculty mentor, which must include the following:
    • Description of engagement [project, mentorship, clinical or community experience] in interprofessional collaborative practice.
    • Description of outcomes and/or impact on the clinic, classroom and/or community.
    • Evidence of demonstrating interprofessional communication, collaboration and excellence as team members.
  3. The nominated student team must submit an electronic poster which must include the following:
    • Description of engagement [project, mentorship, clinical or community experience] in interprofessional collaborative practice.
    • Description of outcomes and/or impact on the clinic, classroom and/or community.
